Hey hot lips, looking for something spicy??
When Kiki, brilliant mastermind behind Poi Dog, Philly's favorite Hawaiian grindz, posted an April Fools Day joke about Chili Peppah Water lipstick, we let her know vellum Street could make that joke a reality - so we did! As we use only biocompatible, locally sourced animal fats as the base for all of our products, it made sense to use lard we had procured from Musi as the base for this lip balm - we all know how important the pig is to Hawaiian culture & cuisine!
Caitlin McCormack, Philadelphia’s famed fiber artist, is secretly Kiki’s photoshop partner in non-crime. They always dream up ridiculous fake campaigns, and Caitlin manifested their dream of a Chili Peppah Water lipstick into an April Fool’s graphic for Poi Dog’s Instagram. It was never meant to be real - but the universe had other plans!
What is Chili Peppah Water?
Chili Peppah Water is found on most tables in Hawai’i, nestled next to the shoyu. We say “chili peppah water over everything” and “everything” refers to rice, meats, macaroni salad, vegetables. This version lends everything a spicy, vinegary tang, a gingery kick laced with Hawaiian Sea Salt and it is made with seasonal Pennsylvania peppers so batches will change depending on when they are brewed.
To make Chili Peppah Water lip balm, we slow infused locally sourced lard with the soilds left over from producing Poi Dogs Chili Peppah Water along with a variety of peppers from Kiki's garden to create a moisturizing lip balm that imparts a warming and slightly spicy tingle on the lips!
And no, its not super spicy! I personally am a baby when it comes to spice, and its just a little tingle - think a low key Tiger Balm, but warm.
